The Religion Communicators Council (RCC) is an interfaith association of communications professionals who work for and with a diverse range of faith-based organizations and non-governmental entities.
The Mandate of 2026
In the rapidly shifting landscape of the 2020s, the RCC recognizes that religious communication is no longer just about the dissemination of news. It is about the preservation of Semantic Integrity in an era of digital fragmentation. Our mission is to promote excellence in the communication of faith and values in the public square, ensuring that diverse religious traditions are represented with accuracy, nuance, and professional dignity.
As we navigate the rise of Artificial Intelligence, the transformation of education, and the globalization of interfaith dialogue, the Council serves as the vanguard of ethical advocacy. We believe that when religious communicators are well-educated and professionally grounded, they act as agents of social cohesion rather than division.
I. Professional Development & Education
We provide the intellectual framework for religious communicators to advance their skills in media literacy, digital strategy, and pedagogical design. Through our 13-category hub, we ensure our members are the most well-equipped voices in the faith sector.
II. Ethical Standards & Accountability
The RCC Code of Ethics is a gold standard. We hold our members and the broader media landscape accountable for the responsible reporting of religious life, advocating for the reduction of algorithmic bias and stereotypes.
III. Recognition of Excellence
By hosting the Wilbur and DeRose-Hinkhouse Awards, we highlight the most impactful communication work in the world, proving that faith-based messaging can meet and exceed the highest secular standards of quality.
A Vision for Global Literacy
Our vision extends far beyond the traditional boundaries of religious institutions. We believe in Universal Faith Literacy—a global standard where media professionals, educators, and policy makers possess the knowledge required to discuss diverse traditions without prejudice. This educational mission is the heartbeat of our Cincinnati headquarters and our international outreach efforts.
We are dedicated to the radical idea that communication is a sacred trust. Whether we are managing a crisis, training a youth leader in media literacy, or archiving a century of religious history, our goal is always the same: to foster a world where communication builds bridges toward mutual respect and shared human flourishing.
The Religion Communicators Council was established in 1929 and is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit professional association.
